Being up early and working on paintings with my music playing reminded me of over a decade ago, in college. I had a painting class from 9am to noon one semester and it was such a great way to start the day, in the studio.
So much about making paintings, or writing songs, or writing a story has to do with a discipline. Not the punishment kind but the regiment kind. Space, time, materials, inspiration and a routine of working. I made more work during my time in school than I have ever since simply because I had a place and time I was required to be painting.
Picasso once said, "Inspiration exists, but it has to find us working."
